Cannabidiol, or CBD as it is popularly called, is a new phytochemical found in Michigan. It was first discovered by a professor who was trying to determine the structure of a new chemical, cannabidiol, which could act as an anti-inflammatory. He noticed that mice, which were unresponsive to a chemical known as ibuprofen, were instead unresponsive to cannabidiol, suggesting that this could be a powerful compound. Since then, cannabidiol has been shown to have many positive effects in the human body, particularly when used in the treatment of cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, inflammation, neurological disorders, etc.Visit Evergreen Market | Bellevue Cannabis Dispensary – cbd for more details.
Because CBD is also known to prevent inflammation, scientists are looking at how it may affect human disease; specifically, the cardiovascular system, blood pressure, and hypertension. In a small clinical trial, conducted in Brazil, patients with mild to moderate Hypertension were randomly given either a placebo at a dose of cannabidiol, or a combination of the two. Those taking the combination had significantly lower blood pressure at the end of the four week study than those receiving only the placebo. Further studies are now underway in the hope that CBD may have a similar effect on blood pressure and other cardiovascular disorders.
Even if the CBD is safe for use in humans, it is not completely clear what the concentration and breakdown levels of cannabidiol are when it is made into a supplement. In a July edition of Marijuana News, titled” CBD May Help Reduce High Blood Pressure,” an article reported that the “standardization process” of CBD “falls short,” and that there are” inconsistencies” with the concentration of CBD used in supplements. In a recent edition of Clinical Therapeutic Research, an article reported that one of the primary pharmaceutical companies had “ceased production” of cannabidiol due to “unclear reasons.” While CBD has not yet been approved by the FDA as a prescription drug, ongoing studies are examining the safety and efficacy of CBD for a variety of medical conditions including multiple sclerosis, seizures, glaucoma, and pain syndromes such as fibromyalgia and post-traumatic stress disorder. In the meantime, CBD appears to be a promising natural alternative to smoked marijuana.
